Letter From the Secretary-General

Dear Delegates and Faculty Advisors,

It is my greatest pleasure to welcome you to the first session of GWAMUN to be held in Dubai from January 9 to 11, 2020.

Whatever role you will in this event, whether delegate, press, chair, or judge, I hope that GWAMUN will leave you with a more perceptive and critical understanding of the social, political, economic, and environmental challenges confronting the international community; in particular, the difficulties of intervention in an increasingly complex, connected, and multipolar world will be one of the greatest problems facing the global community. Moreover, I hope that you will leave the conference more practiced in the arts of rhetoric, negotiation, and compromise, such that you not only absorb ideas here, but also are able to improve your ability to express them.

However, beyond this, our aspiration for GWAMUN is not merely that the simulation benefits individual participants, but rather that it cultivates an ethic of service, and a character of mindfulness. I hope that through bringing into closer contact the magnitude of the challenges confronting all of humanity, the conference will inspire, to a certain degree, each of us to match our words with actions. In this sense, the success of the conference is not measured by whatever awards you may or may not win, but rather by if you have found the knowledge, courage, and compassion to go and make better the lives of those less fortunate than you.

With that said, I look forward to your active participation in our conference. I would also like to thank you in advance, for I have every faith that with our combined efforts, we will be able to make GWAMUN a productive, memorable, and inspiring experience to all those involved.
