The question of preventing the destruction of world heritage sites in conflict zones

The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization’s main objective is to contribute to peace and security in the world by promoting collaboration among nations through education, science, culture and communication in order to further universal respect for justice, for the rule of law, and for the human rights. Therefore, the committee addressed the issue of the destruction of world heritage sites in conflict zones. Armed conflicts such as in Central Asia, Middle East and West Africa had led to an increase in the destruction of historic sites by terrorist groups. The historic sites are a cultural memory of humanity and hence is crucial to address these issues on how to sufficiently enhance the protections of these sites from non-state actors. The delegates will look to provide a solution on how to control the destruction, collateral damage from war zones.

The question of making Wikipedia a digital World Heritage Site

Furthermore, the question of making Wikipedia a digital World Heritage Site will be talked upon. A World Heritage Site is usually a landmark or area which has cultural, historical, scientific or other form of significance. However,  the question of whether Wikipedia is suitable for this position will be further looked towards by delegates through discussing the qualities and implications of the decision.
