The question of reducing refugee displacement from climate change and natural disasters

In recent times climate change has caused an increase in the number of natural disasters, such as hurricanes and droughts, across the world. The result of this change in climate has been harm in the economies of many underdeveloped states. A consequence of this is that many environmental refugees and economic refugees have been displaced from their homes which are now no longer economically or environmentally habitable. It is the duty of the global community to come up with a solution to this issue, which has been caused by the industrialization of the UN's member states. Indeed, the right to shelter and a dignified existence, as well as safety, is a fundamental human right. It is imperative that all states in the global community work together to come up with an appropriate solution as soon as possible.

The question of space colonization and militarization

The militarization of space is the placement and militarization development of weaponry and military technology in outer space. During the Cold War, the United States and the Soviet Union developed and tested ballistic missile technology.  Today, there are approximately sixty countries that are active in space with militaries that use satellites for an array of military-related functions. Currently, space is not weaponised, with no known weapons deployed in space. The UN has prioritized the prevention of an arms race in space on the arm control agenda, with The Committee On the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space was established in 1959 producing five major treaties with the intention of hindering weapons development for outer space. Today, one of the primary issues presented being that almost anything can be used as a weapon for damaging satellites and other vessels. As such, there remains a complicated debate over the definition of a “space weapon”. Moreover, a lack of international legal framework regarding the colonization of space leaves us with ambiguities over sovereignty and control over regions of space and extraterrestrial planets, providing us with a clear need for a comprehensive solution.
